The Real Reason Why I’m Becoming a CPA: To Give My Parents What They Deserve

Some of my earliest memories are of watching my parents work.
Not just working—but grinding. Long days, early mornings, late nights. Doing whatever it took to keep their business alive and our family moving forward. Their business wasn’t just a source of income—it was their dream, their sacrifice, and their way of building a better future for their four children.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more involved in understanding how their business actually runs—not just the operations, but the numbers behind it. And what I found has stayed with me.
They’ve always had a CPA. Someone to file their taxes, handle the paperwork, and “take care of the financial side.” And for a long time, we trusted that everything was being handled the way it should be.
But the more I paid attention, the more I realized something didn’t feel right.
Some questions went unanswered. Decisions being made without full information. Opportunities that were never even brought up.
It wasn’t that things were being done wrong—it’s that so much was being left unsaid… just because my parents weren’t educated enough. No one was sitting down with my parents to explain what their numbers actually meant. No one was guiding them on how to grow, how to save, or how to plan ahead. No one was translating the complexity of finances into something they could truly understand and use.
And that’s the part that hurts the most. Because my parents, like many other business owners, are the kind of people who deserve that guidance. They’ve worked too hard to be left in the dark about their own business. That realization changed something in me.
It made me see that being a CPA isn’t just about taxes or spreadsheets—it’s about people. It’s about making sure that families like mine have access to the knowledge and support they need to make confident financial decisions and feel confident throughout.
It’s about being someone who doesn’t just check boxes, but actually shows up.
Someone who explains.
Someone who educates.
Someone who cares.
That’s why I’m pursuing my CPA license. Because I’ve seen what happens when business owners don’t get the full picture. And I’ve also seen how powerful it could be if they did. Every small business has a story behind it. Late nights. Risk. Sacrifice. Hope. And behind every story, there should be a financial professional who honors that effort by doing more than the bare minimum.
My parents built something from nothing. They trusted the system to support them—and in some ways, it fell short. I don’t want to be part of that. I want to be part of the change. I want to be the CPA who makes sure no family feels confused about their finances… the one who takes the time to explain… the one who helps turn hard work into real, lasting wealth.
Because this isn’t just what I want to do.
It’s who I’m doing it for.
